Is your CDS radio healthy and operational?
CDS radios are two-way radios with specialized features specific only to CDS. On occasion these radios need some maintenance. The following are some simple guidelines to follow to ensure your radio is working properly.

CDS Radio Health Checklist
1. Check your antenna, is it cracked, is the metal inside exposed, is it missing the end cap? All of these conditions can cause poor reception and transmission. PLEASE NOTE ANTENNAS ARE FREQUENCY SPECIFIC AND RADIO SPECIFIC. REPLACING THE ANTENNA WITH AN INCOMPATIBLE ONE MAY PERMINENTLY DAMAGE YOUR RADIO AND PREVENT YOU FROM COMMUNICATING TO THE CDS DISPATCH TEAM.

2. Check your battery, is it cracked, does it hold a charge for 8 hours? Batteries have a life span of about 2 years. If the radio sits in the charger all day the life span of the battery will decrease as well as its ability to hold a full 8 hour charge. Allowing your battery to fully cycle, charge and then discharge, will yield maximum charge capacity as well as maximum battery life span. Batteries with cracks should not be used and properly disposed of immediately.
3. Check your radio, is it cracked, missing knobs, or has a broken display? If the radio has experienced an impact it can effect the internal circuitry and effectively decrease the overall performance of the radio. Any visible signs of damage are an indication that a CDS authorized vendor should perform a service check of the radio.
4. Perform a radio check. CDS recommends that radio checks be performed daily during shift changes and or when a fresh battery is installed. An example of a radio check is as follows: "This is 1 Broadway for a radio check" CDS Dispatcher "1 Broadway you are loud and clear" If you have trouble hearing the dispatcher or get no response it is indicative that your radio may be malfunctioning and the above checks should be performed.
